你是谁?Who Are You?: Solo Exhibition
Who Are You? Is the summation of my 2-month-stay in Zhujiajiao, Shanghai, China. It is a self reflective visual diary encircling my ruminations as an ethnically Chinese foreigner in China. All works as well as promotional material were illustrated and designed by me.
When to Stop?
A series of illustrations I submitted to the D&AD Young Blood 2017 Competition
Yellow Peril Supports Black Power
Made of China
Made of China (2014) Exhibited: Mighty Jaxx’s Xmas Cookie Party Venue: Front Row, The Raffles Hotel Arcade I was one of the selected artists asked to take part in this custom toy event, where each artist was to customize a Jason Freeny gingerbread man. Seeing as how this was a western festive event taking place in Singapore, a westernized asian country, I decided to comment on globalized nations with oriental roots.
From Jesus to Yeezus
An exploration on the parallels between conventional worship and fanatical behaviours surrounding celebrity worship, bringing the definition of religion into question. I found Kanye West (aka Yeezus) to be an excellent case study as, despite his faith in Christianity, his egotistic persona and god complex paints a fascinating picture of the modern person’s struggle between submission and empowerment. In congruence with the time-honoured vocabulary of Christian art, the artwork is filled with symbolism and iconography which references from the life of Yeezus. This is the mythology of Yeezianity and the human race.
The Independent
I was commissioned by the Independent for an illustration to support Will Self's article regarding the nature of the UK's mental health facilities and its correlation with the stigma surrounding mental health.
Shiro Oni Residence Group Show 2019 / シロオニ展覧会 2019年
Shiro Oni Artist-in-Residence Group Show 2019 I was one of 8 artists in Shiro Oni's 2019 July art residency intake, situated in a small town in Gunma. It was a culturally immersive experience punctuated by wholesome interactions with locals, a summer festival, hot spring trips and a group exhibition at the end.
Stormy Waters
A visual metaphor of purgatory. A transitional phase as a that's full of motion but no progress.
Artwork for Industria 2019
I was asked to create an artwork for Industria (Индустрия), a pioneering exhibition for the city of Izhevsk, Russia, detailing its industrial roots.
All The People, So Many People
All The People, So Many People is an ongoing visual mixtape which consists of visualised song suggestions from close friends who have been asked the question "Pick a song that summarises our friendship." The idea is that these visualised suggestions will paint an honest portrait of myself. As the wise Jim Rohn once said "We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with".
